Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, received 3 participants in the relay marathon for youth from different countries of the world, through the initiative of the Danish Environmental Education Foundation under the title “Running out of Time”, to participate in the activities of the 27th Conference of the States Parties in United Nations Convention on Climate Change COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The initiative is summarized in the participation of runners, cyclists and sailors moving a distance of 7,200 km from the Scottish city of Glasgow to the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, the venue for the conference, where the marathon began on September 30, 2022, passing through 16 European and Middle Eastern countries, which are “Scotland, Wales, England, France.” , Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, and Cyprus,” arriving today in Sharm El-Sheikh.
In the same context, the Minister of Youth and Sports led a bicycle marathon with the participation of young people coming from the international trip, and Egyptian youth, in front of the icon of peace, which was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the Central Administration for Sports Development (General Administration of the Grassroots), and the Central Administration for Youth Development, in cooperation With the Egyptian Cycling Federation, Save the Children, South Sinai Governorate, and the Directorate of Youth and Sports in the governorate.
For his part, the Minister of Youth and Sports expressed his happiness at receiving young people coming from the international trip, and Egyptian youth receiving them, noting that he participated with the youth of the Climate Youth Conference COY17 in a cycling marathon for a distance of 21 km, in order to spread sports culture for all, and in appreciation of the state’s efforts in Preparing for the climate conference and presenting generations capable of assuming responsibility, with the support of UNICEF within the framework of the program to create a supportive environment for young people in Egypt.
Sobhi thanked the Governor of South Sinai for the efforts made to receive the climate conference, the impressive equipment for the conference, as well as the coordination to receive the youth coming from the international cycling trip, to complement the success of the COP27 climate conference.
The events were attended by Major General Ismail Al-Far, Head of the Youth Sector at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in the presence of Dr. Wajih Azzam, President of the Egyptian and African Cycling Federations, Dr. Sonia Abdel Wahab, Head of the Central Administration for Sports Development, Azza Al-Dari, Head of the Central Administration for Youth Development, Major General Abdel Rahman Shalash, Director of the Directorate of Youth and Sports in Giza, Dr. Ghada Gamal El-Din, Director General of the General Administration of the Grassroots, Iman Othman, Director General of the General Administration of Creative and Talented, Mohamed Fathy, Director of the Directorate of Youth and Sports in South Sinai Governorate, Dr. Essam Serageldin, Head of the Economic Unit in the Office of the Minister of Youth and Sports.
