The adventurer and environmental activist, Ali Abdo, and the founder of the “Journey to the COP 27 Climate Summit” initiative, succeeded in achieving a new record in the “Guinness Book of Records” for the longest trip on an electric bicycle within a country, after covering a distance of more than 9 thousand kilometers in 22 hours. A day after the launch of his initiatives, and only about 2,000 km remained from the trip, in order to achieve the second record during the trip for the longest trip in the world on an electric bike, the initiative aims to raise awareness of climate changes, promote the COP 27 climate conference, and document the impact of climate change on the lives of Egyptians, as well On encouraging young people to participate in various activities and initiatives to address climate change.
Abdo said that he is currently working on completing the journey in order to break the world record for the longest journey on an electric bicycle in the world, with a length of 12,300 kilometers, finally reaching the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, coinciding with the COP 27 Climate Summit, to present his experience to Egypt and the world. .
Abdu pointed out that the initiative has achieved many of its goals, foremost of which is interviewing people who have fallen victim to climate change, and collecting their stories to tell them during the Climate Summit. In addition, he was able to shed light on a number of projects and successful experiences in addressing climate change, by visiting several projects working to provide clean energy, such as the Benban solar power plant in Aswan Governorate, and the wind power plants in the Red Sea and the High Dam.
He added that during his trip he also visited the tree forest area in Luxor, which is the largest tree forest in Egypt, and is spread over an area of more than 750 acres in the east of the governorate. This forest absorbs a huge amount of carbon, and contributes economically as it is used to provide wood, as well as its seeds from which oils are extracted and used in various industries.
He was also keen to visit the sea water desalination plant in Rumaila, which is one of the most important sources of drinking water in Matrouh Governorate, and other important projects.
And “Abdo” confirmed that one of the difficulties that faced achieving the first record of the trip was the lack of charging stations in the governorates, which “Abdo” and his team overcame by charging only during rest periods and driving the rest of the time, in addition to the harsh weather conditions and fluctuations. Weather and heavy rainfall encountered during the trip.
