President of the European Commission: We appreciate the strategic relations with a partner of the size and weight of Egypt

Ambassador Badr Abdel-Aty, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Kingdom of Belgium accredited to the European Union, presented his credentials to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. A partner of the size and weight of Egypt.

During the meeting, the momentum witnessed by the relations between Egypt and the European Union in areas of cooperation of common interest was emphasized. This was reflected in the frequency of high-level mutual visits between the two sides, and the visit of the President of the European Commission to Egypt in mid-June, during which the memorandum of understanding for tripartite cooperation between Egypt, the European Union and Israel in the field of gas export was signed, in addition to the participation of “von der Leyen” in the Proceedings of the COP 27 Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Change Conference with the President of the European Council.

The important step on the path of strengthening strategic cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in the field of energy was also highlighted, represented by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on renewable hydrogen on the sidelines of the COP 27 climate change conference.

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that during the meeting, the vital regional role that Egypt plays in enhancing security and stability in a region rife with conflicts was emphasized, as well as the European Union’s reliance on the Egyptian role as a fundamental pillar. To maintain security and stability in the region.

Ambassador Badr Abdel-Aty held the position of Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and the official spokesperson for the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs” and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department between 2013 and 2015, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for “European Union” and Western European Affairs and National Coordinator of the Union for the Mediterranean between 2012 and 2013, and Deputy Head of Mission in Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Brussels between 2008 and 2012.

He was also director of Palestinian affairs at the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs” between 2007 and 2008, and an advisor at the “Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Washington” and responsible for the files of Congress and African affairs between 2003 and 2007, and first secretary in the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for the files of African affairs and the peace process in the Middle East between 2001 and 2003, and second secretary at the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Tokyo, responsible for African affairs and the peace process in the Middle East and Iran between 1997 and 2001, and second secretary in the office of the Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Regional Economic Cooperation in the Middle East between 1995 and 1997.

He also held the position of a member of the Egyptian delegation to the Cairo Economic Conference on the Middle East and North Africa in 1996, and a third secretary at the “Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Tel Aviv” and responsible for Israeli internal affairs and the peace process in the Middle East between 1991 and 1995, and an attaché in the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs” between 1989 and 1991, and a researcher at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies in Cairo between 1987 and 1989.
