The European Union reaches agreement on reforming carbon markets

Early Sunday morning, the European Union reached an agreement on reforming carbon markets in the bloc, according to the Czech presidency of the bloc, which is the bloc’s main political tool to combat global warming.

The agreement allows them to meet climate targets in key sectors of the economy, while making sure that the most affected citizens as well as small businesses are effectively supported in the climate transition, according to Reuters, Czech Environment Minister Marian Jureka said in a statement.

Despite this finding, the interim agreement still needs to be formally approved by the European Parliament and the European Council, which include the EU’s member states.
