Among them is confronting climate change.. German Ambassador: We cooperate with Egypt in all fields

German Ambassador to Cairo Frank Hartmann affirmed his country’s keenness to achieve cooperation with Egypt in all fields, especially in the field of water resources and facing climate change.

This came during a meeting between Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, with the German Ambassador in Cairo
The German ambassador touched on the existing efforts to urge the United Nations to appoint a special envoy for water, which was welcomed by the Minister of Irrigation, in preparation for the activities of the United Nations mid-term review conference to be held next March.

 

Launching an international initiative to adapt to climate change in the water sector

For his part, Dr. Hani Sweilem indicated that Egypt put forward an international initiative to adapt to climate change in the water sector during the previous climate conference in cooperation with many international partners, which is the starting point for taking action and implementing projects on the ground for adaptation in the water sector.

The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation also expressed his hope for Germany’s participation in supporting this important initiative, which will undoubtedly contribute to dealing with the negative effects of climate in developing countries, especially African countries.

Egypt’s willingness to be an African center for training and capacity building in the field of climate change adaptation

Dr. Hany Sweilem affirmed Egypt’s readiness to be an African center for training and capacity-building in the field of adaptation to climate change under the umbrella of this initiative, indicating that Egypt has already provided its great expertise in the field of water management to its African brothers, by training African specialists at the Ministry’s Regional Training Center and the Center Regional training affiliated to the Research Institute of Hydraulics.
